Alex Pritchard revealed he has been given license to thrill by Brentford's coaches this season – and uses Spurs star Christian Eriksen as his inspiration.

The on-loan Tottenham youngster opened his account for the Bees with the crucial equaliser in the 2-1 victory at Blackpool last night, his new club's first league win of the campaign.

Pritchard, 21, netted eight times from midfield while on loan at Swindon last season, and is confident the freedom he is enjoying at Brentford will see the goals continue to flow.

He said: “They say to me express yourself when you get the ball, and with Dougie (Jonathan Douglas) sitting deep it gives me and Alan Judge the chance to get forward and try to create things – although he's not shy in calling us back to defend either. Dougie's very good in that position.

“For the goal, I took a touch but thought the defender would get it, so I just reacted and hit it, and I think the defender was blocking the keeper's view. It was my first Championship goal and I'm sure there's more to come – and now I want to get my first home one.

Inspiration: Christian Eriksen in action for Tottenham

“Coming from a club like Spurs, I have always learn from the best players in the world and try to watch people in my position like Christian Eriksen, whose technical ability is brilliant.”

Bees boss Mark Warburton said after the win at Blackpool that his side still have lessons to learn, and Pritchard, who is on a season-long long at Griffin Park, agrees.

He added: “We could have scored more and deserved all three points. We were brilliant for 50 to 60 minutes but started to get a bit tired, although we picked things up and ground out a great result.

“We came in at half time and said if we keep playing the way we were we would score again. We have good footballers and a good team, so we will get goals. But we then started to drop too deep, and we will learn from that.”
