AFC Wimbledon manager Neal Ardley is closing in on his final two signings of the summer after a busy week of transfer activity of the summer.

The Dons have this week completed deals for Andy Barcham, Tom Elliott and taken experienced defender Karleigh Osborne on a season-long loan from Bristol City.

However, Ardley isn’t ready to put the chequebook away yet and still has another couple of names left on his shopping list before he shuts up shop at Wimbledon.

Elliott, a towering target man signed from Cambridge, gives the Dons another big option up top but Ardley is looking for another forward in the mould of Matt Tubbs.

Osborne is one half of Ardley’s proposed new-look centre-back pairing and the other space still needs to be filled at the heart of the defence, with an unknown Spaniard one option for the boss.

“I know there’s a little bit of impatience out there and people want signings but we’ve profiled the type of players that we want,” Ardley told Dons Player.

“The other centre forward we’re working on and we’re being patient with. He’s got different qualities and is probably more of an out-and-out goalscorer.

“We’re still working on that and we’ve still got another centre-back to bring in.

“We’ve got a lad in from Spain training with us next week and we’ll probably have a look at him in one or two of the pre-season games.

“We’ve also got one or two others we’re looking at too.”

Wimbledon fans could get their first glimpse of the, as yet, unknown Spaniard when the Dons kick-off their pre-season campaign at home to Watford on July 11.
