The 51-year-old cyclist who died after her bike collided with a lorry in west Ealing has been named on social media as Claudia Manera.

The Ealing resident – who once worked as an officer for Metropolitan Police – suffered serious injuries to her legs and pelvis at around 1.35pm on Thursday October 12.

Ms Manera was airlifted to an east London hospital but died of her injuries on Thursday (October 19) evening, a police spokesman confirmed.

The Italian national took dual nationality in 2015 and had run the marathon four times, according to the Evening Standard .

A colleague who worked with Ms Manera during her career as a personal trainer described her as a “loving, gentle lady”.

Katherine Beesley, of west Ealing, said: “Everyone was just so fond of Claudia and her passion for running and fitness.

“She was such a loving, gentle and kind lady - it's such a devastating loss for the community, she was an absolutely lovely girl."

She added: “It was only a couple of years ago she qualified and came into the fitness side of things, she loved it and was so passionate about it.

“She actually said to one of the members the other day she was the happiest she has ever been in her life, which is kind of bittersweet.”

The personal trainer, who came to the UK in 1995 to study and teach at Reading University, described herself as a “small, hyperactive person who does a lot of sport”.

The group prayed for Claudia Manera at a group meeting on October 14

Recalling fond memories of Ms Manera, her former colleague added: “She was so sweet, she really loved a head torch.

“She would go running at stupid o'clock, if she had a busy day it wouldn't bother her to get up really early and go for a run in the dark.

“Claudia would set up her class in the dark with her head torch on, she was very passionate and dedicated to what she did.”

'She'll be so missed'

Ms Beesley added: “She'll be so missed within the community.”

The crash between the bike and the lorry took place at the junction of Uxbridge Road and The Broadway on Thursday October 12.

The lorry driver stopped at the scene and there have been no arrests.
