The people behind the Golborne Road Festival have launched a crowdfunding campaign to meet a shortfall in their fundraising.

Organisers are just over £1,000 short of the total funds needed and fear they will have to curtail some of the activities it puts on because of it.

The event, in its seventh year, is organised by the Golborne Forum, a volunteer led local neighbourhood body that brings together residents, local businesses and community organisations in North Kensington , and takes place on Sunday July 10.

It is a popular familiy-orientated fun day festival which attracted crowds of up to 4,000 people last year.

Volunteer event organiser, Kuldip Bajwa, who is also a member of the Kensington and Chelsea Social Council , said: “It’s important for us that all the activities and entertainment are free.

"We want everybody to be able to come out and enjoy the festival alongside their friends and neighbours. Last year we had queues for some activities like the children’s face painting and the bouncy castle and it would be a pity if we had to cut back.”

Individual supporters, local shops and businesses are being encouraged to pledge a donation with the money only being taken if the full fundraising target is met by June 28.

The Golborne Road Festival takes place between 1-6pm between the junctions of Portobello and Wornington Roads and will see Golborne Road closed to traffic with a live music stage providing performers with the imposing backdrop of the iconic Trellick Tower .

It will include international food and community stalls, free health checks and plenty of sports activities for the more energetic.

Last month a children's play centre successfully raised money through crowdfunding to have a float at this year's Notting Hill Carnival .
