A children's play centre will have a float at the Notting Hill Carnival after raising £5,000 through a crowd funding website.

The Venture Centre needed the money before May 20 after local children who use the centre in Ladbroke Grove asked to take part in this year’s annual street following its victory in the Nurseries category last year.

Centre director Naami Padi had appealed to getwestlondon readers to help, and said: “It’s just amazing. It’s been a challenge to get the message out there and attract support, but we've been overwhelmed.

“The kids are over the moon. This has been their project and they’ve been fantastic.”

The money was raised by 88 backers and will be spent hiring a float and creating costumes.

More than 200 local children use the centre in Wornington Road, which also helps the community in a number of other ways , for a variety of activities each week including its steel pan band and the adventure playground.

Speaking at the launch of the appeal, 11-year-old centre user Nadya said: “I love going to carnival and it would be amazing to be part of the parade.

"I really hope everyone can support our project!”
