Police believe the young man gunned down in Kilburn on Thursday (December 8) night was killed by a lone gunman.

They say the victim, who officers have revealed was a 21-year-old, was approached by a single male suspect wearing a hooded top and shot in Palmerston Street, at around 5.20pm.

An increased police presence remains at the scene, with detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command working alongside local officers.

Police had been called to reports of a man collapsed in Netherwood Street. On arriving with ambulance crew, they found the victim being trended to by members of the public.

However, they were unable to save his life and he was pronounced dead an hour later.

Next of kin have been informed but formal identification has not taken place, and a post-mortem examination will take place on Saturday (December 10).

Police believe the suspect, who was also wearing jeans as well as his hooded top, made off in the direction of the Webheath Estate.

Police say the area was busy at the time and hope witnesses will come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Partridge, who is leading the investigation , said: “We have had a positive initial response from the local community and a number of witnesses have already come forward.”

Charities which help tackle gang crime and violence have told getwestlondon that incidents such as this leave the community fearing for its safety.

DC Partridge continued: “Detectives investigating the murder are continuing to work alongside local officers and remain at the scene, so the community will see an increased police presence in the local area.

“Some of these officers will be carrying out reassurance patrols; they are happy to talk to any community members who wish to speak to police about concerns following this shocking incident.”

No arrests have been made.
