Supermarket giant Aldi recently announced it was on track to open 70 new stores next year.

However, the German chain has remained tight-lipped about the sites it has identified as part of bigger plans to reach a target of having 1,000 shops by 2022.

Here at Getwestlondon, we take a look at FIVE potential sites across the area where an Aldi store could open near you.

Hounslow

Firefighters at the old Feltham Hotel, in High Street, Feltham

Having been a derelict site in the heart of Feltham town centre, the old Feltham Hotel seems to be a good spot for a new Aldi.

In recent months the site has been gutted by two fires, most recently in August when firefighters spent over an hour tackling the flames.

The former home of Feltham Community Association until 2008 has stood abandoned for many years at the end of the High Street, at the junction with Bedfont Lane and close to Feltham railway station.

Previous plans for the site have included flats or a learning centre for young people, but nothing has prospered from it.

Could Aldi be the answer to its prayers?

Hammersmith & Fulham

West 12 Shopping Centre
West 12 Shopping Centre

The recent announcement that Morrisons is closing its doors at West 12 in Shepherd's Bush could mean it becomes the perfect space for an Aldi.

With 170 job losses on the line, a new supermarket could help relieve pressure on that number.

Meanwhile, residents living in nearby estates might breathe a sigh of relief at not having to walk up to Tesco in Brook Green or be hit by high Waitrose prices at Westfield.

So is this the solution MP Andy Slaughter could be looking for?

Ealing

There is also the BHS site in West Ealing, which has reportedly been sold off for residential development.

It is a primary location on the Broadway and could serve new incoming families, couples and singletons with another affordable place to shop, what with Lidl just across the way.

With plans for affordable homes and a wealth of retail space it could work.

But could the move be risky for Aldi on its competitor's doorstep?

Hillingdon

Queues of shoppers line up to step inside Aldi's new South Ruislip store

Long queues formed at the opening of the store in Eastcote and the Aldi in South Ruislip earlier this year.

But there could still be room for one more given that new homes are to be built at St Andrew's Park in Uxbridge.

With 1,300 homes planned at the former RAF Uxbridge site off Hillingdon Road, surely its future residents could do with a supermarket on their doorstep.

Just a thought if Aldi are still on the search for some sites!

Harrow

With the closure of BHS in Harrow there is room for another household name to move in.

The branch at St Anns Shopping Centre shut its doors last month and could be the perfect spot for Aldi to open with shoppers roaming around for the best deals.

Has Aldi made plans to grab this space in Harrow?
