Ryan Woods admits his first real taste of derby action is one which will live long in the memory.

The former Shrewsbury Town man played a key role in the middle once more as Brentford beat QPR 1-0 on Friday night.

For the 21 year old, the west London rivalry was a whole world away from anything he has ever experienced before in football.

He said: “It was my first proper derby and it was great. It was a brilliant atmosphere, and we got the points too.

“I've never seen anything like it before. When I was at Shrewsbury, there were rivalries with teams like Telford and Hereford, but we never really played them.

“We've now got to keep this run going, and there's no reason why we can't. We will take the highs with the lows, but there's some very good players in this team.”

Next up, as the Bees try to make it five wins in a row, are Hull City, who are the visitors to Griffin Park on Tuesday night.

Like QPR, the Tigers were relegated from the top flight last year, but Woods insists that should hold no fear for Brentford.

He added: “We've been playing some really good football and we've shown that we can match anyone, so no, we don't fear anybody.

“Playing in games like these was why I came here. But while teams like QPR and Hull were playing in the Premier League last year, you have to remember Brentford finished fifth in the Championship.

“It may have been before my time here, but it surprised a lot of people and made the football world sit up and take notice.”
