Brentford edged the battle of west London - but there wasn't a lot in it.

A game of five yellow cards, all of them bar one earned in the middle third, betrayed a lot of oomph if not a lot of class.

The one sublime moment arrived on 56 minutes when Bees cut the QPR defence in two for Alan Judge's perfect low cross to curl into the path of Marco Djuricin who converted with aplomb from five yards.

Before that Rangers came closest in a strange first half.

Bees did all the pressing but QPR were the frame of the goal from breaking the deadlock.

But before that in a scrappy opening, it took 30 minutes before the first tame shot from Matt Phillips nestled safely in David Button's arms.

John Swift then made Rob Green grab twice at a fizzer from a distance, but only a Button palm kept out a glancing header from Massimo Luongo and on to the bar.

The thick of it: John Swift (L) and Massimo Luongo

Ryan Woods tried a snapshot straight at Green this time, and Luongo was closest yet when his right foot drive on the angle struck the foot of the post an back into play.

Charlie Austin made his first appearance since the 4-0 thrashing at Fulham as a second-half sub. But even with a double spearhead alongside Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, Rangers were powder puff in attack.

Worse still, Rs veteran Clint Hill was banging the turf in pain before limping off favouring his left knee on 74 minutes.

In contrast, Brentford were mostly a yard sharper and good for their fourth win in a row.
