IKEA in Wembley has reportedly been evacuated after what police have described as a "threat".

Metropolitan Police has been called to Drury Way and officers have been seen outside IKEA.

People on social media have described how the shop has been evacuated, and how there are numerous police cars outside.

So far, police say they are dealing with a "threat" in Drury Way.

IKEA said the store would reopen at 5.30pm - there’s nothing to suggest this hasn’t happened. Two men have been arrested following this afternoon’s incident.

'Police advised us to leave'

One witness, Sammie Hillman, said: “After we were evacuated we stayed in the car park of IKEA for about 30 minutes to see if we were able to get back in. “The police advised us to leave because the store was unsure whether they would open or not.”

IKEA aiming to open at 5.30pm

An IKEA spokesman said: “We can confirm that our IKEA Wembley store closed earlier today following a security alert on site.

“Police were immediately called and the store was quickly evacuated as per our standard routines.

“We are now aiming to reopen the store by 5.30pm.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused to our customers.”

Two arrested

Met police said that two men were arrested on suspicion of communicating false information with intent.

A police spokesman added: “Two men (no further details) were arrested at the scene on suspicion of communicating false information with intent, contrary to Section 51 (2) of the Criminal Law act 1977.

“They were taken to a north London police station and remain in custody.

“Police are still on scene and enquiries continue.”

Police called due to 'suspect package'

Metropolitan police said it was called to Drury Way, at 2.20pm, because of a suspect package.

A police spokesman said: “Police were called at 14:20hrs on Wednesday, 26 April to Drury Way NW10, to a report of a suspect package at a commercial premises.

“Officers from Brent borough attended and found no suspect package.”

On Twitter, a spokesman for IKEA in Wembley said: “We can confirm that IKEA Wembley is currently closed due to a security alert on site.”
