Taxi companies are coming to the aid of London voters on polling day, with both free and discounted rides on offer.
Uber is providing a free service to young wheelchair users in London, Manchester and Birmingham, to help them get to their local polling station on election day.
The company is a member of Whizz-Kidz’s Travel Alliance, a charity which helps young people in accessing their local transport services.
The move has been welcomed by the charity, as chief executive of Whizz-Kidz, Ruth Owen, said: "Exercising your right to vote is such a fundamental milestone in transitioning from childhood to adulthood.
"For many young wheelchair users across the UK, this year will mark the first time ever they’ve been eligible to vote in a General Election, so it’s important that the barriers that can stand between them and making their voices heard are removed.
"We hope Uber’s generous move will inspire many young wheelchair users to get out and vote on June 8."
Jo Bertram, regional general manager of Uber in the UK, said: "Everybody should be able to have their say on election day, so we’re delighted to work with Whizz-Kidz to offer young wheelchair users an easy way to get to the polls."
Another company coming to the aid of Londoners is Mytaxi, which is offering half price cab rides for voters in Hounslow .
The initiative comes as part of the company's ongoing campaign to get Londoners moving freely.
Mytaxi will provide the reduced price service from 7am on Thursday (June 8).
General manager at mytaxi, Andy Jones, said: "Everyone’s vote counts and we believe that no one should be prevented from getting out to vote due to transport issues or busy London lifestyles.
"Mytaxi has lots of customers in Hounslow and as our drivers have all completed the Knowledge, this ensures they know the best routes to get them to their local polling station faster."
Polling stations will be open to voters between 7am and 10pm on Thursday.
