Shocking statistics reveal that Ealing town centre's biggest crime problem is theft, according to the latest police data for August.

There were a staggering 89 reports of theft in the Ealing Broadway area throughout August – crimes ranging from shoplifting to bike theft and theft from a person.

Home Office data reveals that nearly three people were affected by some form of theft each day.

More than 230 crimes were committed overall, with the most prevalent reports - besides theft - being crimes involving antisocial behaviour and violent and sexual offences.

The 238 reported crimes committed throughout August means that around seven people were allegedly victims of crime each day of the month.

The most affected area in the police ward was The Broadway, in particular outside Ealing Broadway station - where 32 crimes reportedly took place.

Nine of these were theft-related, but reports were predominantly about antisocial behaviour.

Antisocial behaviour - 63 crimes

Without amalgamating the various theft categories, crimes involving antisocial behaviour were reported most in Ealing Broadway throughout August.

Overall, there were 63 reported incidents - an average of 2 every day.

According to the Home Office and Metropolitan Police, this category includes "personal, environmental and nuisance antisocial behaviour".

The areas in Ealing town centre most affected by this category of crime was Ealing Broadway station, Spring Bridge Road Multi-storey Car Park and Haven Green.

Shoplifting - 41 crimes

Following behind the antisocial behaviour category is shoplifting, with 41 reported instances taking place in Ealing town centre within a month.

The category, defined as "theft from shops or stalls", is the area's most common type of theft to take place - with more than one reported each day.

The place most affected by shoplifting in the police ward is the Ealing Broadway Shopping Centre, at which 17 of the 41 reported crimes were committed.

Out of those, 10 are still under investigation, four no suspects were identified, one person has been cautioned, one given a penalty notice and another awaiting court outcome.

Violent and sexual crimes - 37 crimes

The third largest category for Ealing Broadway is violent and sexual crimes, as police received reports of nearly 40 throughout August.

Offences within this category are defined as those "against the person such as common assaults, Grievous Bodily Harm and sexual offences".

Again, Ealing Broadway Shopping Centre was affected by these types of crime the most, with 10 reportedly taking place inside it.

Other particularly affected places include Oak Road, with four reported crimes, and The Broadway, with another six reported.

Other theft - 25 crimes

The other theft category refers to crimes including theft by an employee, blackmail and making off without payment, according to the Home Office.

Throughout August, 25 out of the 238 crimes reported were put in this category, the fourth most reoccurring crime in Ealing Broadway.

Bond Street and its surrounding area were particularly affected by "other theft", with four reports being made in one month.

Ealing Broadway station was also a hotspot for these alleged crimes.

Bike theft - 15 crimes

Fifteen bike thefts were reported throughout August, the Home Office says.

Three reportedly took place on or near Haven Green and four at Ealing Broadway station.

Pretty much all instances are still under investigation by Metropolitan Police.

Vehicle crime - 13 crimes

Vehicle crime, which includes theft from or of a vehicle or interference with a vehicle, reportedly took place 13 times in August.

Unlike other categories, there is not a concentration of the crime taking place near the station or off The Broadway.

Although reports of the crime are dotted around the ward, two took place on or near Haven Lane and two around Charlbury Grove.

Again, the majority are either under investigation or no suspects were identified.
