So once again it is the weekend and you are sat wondering what to do.

Well in west London, we are spoilt for choice when it comes to enjoying our free time.

From comedy events to beautiful gardens just waiting to be explored to an array of sporting events, the opportunities really are endless.

So this year, why not get out and try something different?

We have put together an ultimate 2017 to do list of activities you should try, right on your doorstep.

1. Lace up your trainers and run the 10 mile Richmond Park run

Richmond Park is to be the host of a 10 mile run this summer, which will become London's only major 10 mile running event.

The event is taking place on June 4, with up to 10,000 runners expected to descend on the Royal Park.

2. Experience Notting Hill Carnival

Celebrating the Caribbean culture, Notting Hill Carnival takes place annually on the August bank holiday and is widely celebrated as one of Europe's biggest street parties.

The festival originated in 1964 with around 500 people attending, and now around one million attend the carnival each year.

So be prepared for music, singing and dancing as the streets of west London come alive.

3. Cheer on Oxford and Cambridge in the annual Boat Race

Head to the banks of the Thames and enjoy the annual four-and-a-quarter mile race which sets off from Putney, through Hammersmith and Fulham, to Mortlake.

The 2017 Boat Race will take place on Sunday, April 2, so choose your team and get cheering.

4. Visit wartime's 'best kept secret' in Uxbridge

Travel 60ft underground into a 1939 Battle of Britain bunker which was operated as a critical hub controlling airspace during World War Two.

It is now a museum and historical site for visitors and still has the original map, clocks and curved glass architecture which it had during the time of the war.

5. Enjoy the summer at Ruislip Lido

You may not have realised but yes, we do have a beach in west London!

The lido is located within the picturesque Ruislip Woods and on site there is a pub and a railway which is a popular attraction for children.

So on a lovely summer's day in 2017, why not head to the beach with a picnic?

6. Enjoy a free performance in Hounslow Bell Square

Enjoy the world of art for free at Hounslow's Bell Square.

The outdoor arts space launched in 2014 and plays host to a range of free performances ranging from circus, to dance to acrobatics.

2017 events will begin in May.

7. Cheer on the greats at Wimbledon

West London is home to one of the most prestigious tennis tournaments in the world.

Get your strawberries and cream at the ready because Wimbledon will be returning this Summer.

Take your place in the queue for a ticket to the tournament which runs from July 3 until July 16.

8. Take some time out at Kew Gardens

Each year, the Royal Botanical Gardens in Kew plays host to a range of activities and exhibitions.

Don't miss the music festival in July, the current Orchids Festival and of course, Christmas at Kew.

9. Visit the Foodies Festival at Syon Park

Sip on fine wine and enjoy meals cooked by Michelin star chefs as the Foodies Festival returns to Syon Park.

There's even live music, cocktail masterclasses and a cookery school for the little ones.

You do have to book tickets and the festival runs over the May Bank Holiday weekend from May 27 until May 29.

10. Head down to London Pride

Pride is an annual festival celebrating LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) individuals, and is the biggest one-day event held in London annually.

So why not get your rainbow flags out and join in on the fun on the streets of London?

This year, the parade takes place on July 8.

11. Enjoy a meal out at one of London's top restaurants

We really are spoilt for choice when it comes to eating out in London, with so many top restaurants right on our doorstep.

So why not try out one of the top 50 restaurants in the capital?

12. Visit Hounslow Urban Farm

Yes believe it or not, amongst the busy streets of west London, we do have our very own farm.

Based in Feltham, the farm covers 29 acres of land and is home to your traditional farmyard animals including pigs, goats, ponies, rabbits, ducks and geese.

13. Get your festival fix in Hyde Park

With Justin Bieber, Kings of Leon and Phil Collins amongst the headline acts at this years British Summer Time Festival in Hyde Park, there is really no reason to go further afield.

So pull on your wellies and get your singing voice at the ready.

14. Visit the Chelsea Flower Show

The ever popular Chelsea Flower Show returns this year from May 23 until May 27 and tickets are already on sale.

Marvel at the beauty of horticulture at its best and take inspiration for your own garden.

15. Celebrate the Queen's Birthday in Westminster

In celebration of the Queen's 91st birthday, Trooping the Colour will take place on June 17 this year.

It is a customary which dates back to the 17th Century and features an impressive display of pageantry to mark the Queen's official birthday.

16. Enjoy some great comedy

One of the great things about living in London is that we have some fantastic live entertainment at our fingertips.

With well-known comedians like Lucy Porter, Jamali Maddix and Tez llyas all bringing shows to London's Soho Theatre, be sure to get yourself a ticket and prepare to laugh the night away.

17. Visit the Shri Swaminarayan Hindu Mandir in Neasden

The temple is built entirely using traditional methods and materials and is certainly a beauty to behold.

Admission into the temple is free of charge but there is a dress code to adhere to, tops must cover the shoulders, navel and upper arms and leg-wear must be below the knee.

18. Enjoy an exhibition on your doorstep

The Natural History Museum

In west London, we are spoilt for choice when it comes to a day out at a museum, with the Science Museum, the Natural History Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum all accessible, free of charge.

Why not incorporate an exhibition into your visit?

Look out for Undressed: A History of Underwear at the V&A and Wildlife Photographer of the Year at the Natural History Museum.

Exhibitions are subject to an extra charge.

19. Take part in a Triathlon

Go on, set yourself a challenge and try out your first Triathlon.

With distances starting from a 400m swim, 15km bike, 2.5km run, can you really say no?

It's one of only two events from the 2012 Olympic games still open to public participation, so lace up your trainers and prepare run in the footsteps of Olympic champions.

You better get training quick though because the event takes place on May 30 and 31.

20. Pay the historic Fulham Palace a visit

The palace has been home to the Bishop of London since 704 and you can explore the history of the house along with the gardens free of charge.

There are monthly historical tours available, but they do have a small charge.

21. Spend a summer's day on a canal boat

Whether you are brave enough to take to the water or are just looking for a short stroll down the canal, make sure Little Venice is on your list this summer.

With boat trips along the canals and plenty of places to enjoy a refreshing drinks or a bite to eat by the canal, Little Venice makes for the perfect day out.
