Neal Ardley had hoped to make one deadline day signing at AFC Wimbledon but the ambitious young manager admits he has had to shelve that plan until later month.

Ardley has used the January window to bring in Jake Reeves , Alfie Potter and David Connolly on a permanent deals while Deji Oshilaja and Craig Tanner joined on loan.

A sixth new addition had been earmarked by the Dons boss but it appears it will be a quiet afternoon down at Kingsmeadow today as the clock ticks away towards 11pm.

Ardley said: “We’ve done the business that we wanted to do so far.

“Injuries permitting, we are comfortable with our squad. We’re very happy with the young players who are pushing and if we feel we can use them we will.

“I watched the U21s on Monday and their enthusiasm, work-rate and willingness to take on information was a really pleasing sign. It was a sign of what we’ve been trying to put in place for the last two years.

“We’ve seen recently that Will Nightingale, George Oakley and Tom Beere are players that we want to get into the first-team, among the very good players that we are signing.

“We do have an iron in the fire for mid-February. The player is not available at this precise moment, but he may be during February. That’s something we may look to do.”

New signing Reeves bagged his first goal for the club on Saturday to open the scoring in a 1-1 draw at Morecambe’s Globe Arena.
