Brentford have confirmed the departure of Andre Gray to Burnley for a club record fee.

The striker had rejected the advances of Bristol City earlier this week and saw the Clarets as the preferred option.

Hull had seen three bids rejected for the former Luton man, with the Hatters set to receive a 20 per cent sell on, before Tigers chairman Assem Allam pulled out of the deal.

West Ham were also rumoured to be interested in the striker, who scored 18 goals last season.

It marks the end of a long-running saga over the Bees man, although he did find the net in both league games.

Gray will not be able to face the Bees at Turf Moor tomorrow as the paperwork was not done in time.

Naturally, Bees head coach Marinus Dijkhuizen was unhappy to see Gray leave the club but praised the striker's attitude during his final weeks.

He told the Bees' official website: “I have enjoyed working with Andre in my time at the club. Andre is a quality player and he was a great asset to the club.

“Despite the speculation around him he remained focussed on doing his job for Brentford and that showed in his performances against Ipswich Town and Bristol City. I wish him all the best for the future and look forward to seeing his progress.”

Clarets boss Sean Dyche was delighted to grab his man, who he sees as the next Charlie Austin and Danny Ings.

He told the Burnley official website: “Andre is a player who we have been aware of since his Hinckley Town days in non-league.

“My coach Tony Loughlan flagged him up there and we have watched his development. I am pleased to say that has gone very well so far.

“He has worked very, very hard to get to the level he’s at. He has risen up the ladder and, in many ways, had a similar pathway to two former strikers here, Danny Ings and Charlie Austin.

“In that respect there is a rawness, a hunger and a great desire from him to continue his education and go even further, and we intend that to be with us in the immediacy and also in the future.”
