Ross McCormack and Cauley Woodrow were also on target to help boost caretaker boss Kit Symons of getting the job on a permanent basis.
He told the club's website: “The character was excellent from our players and I was very pleased. The character, resilience and never-say-die attitude is what makes you a good team.
“We’ve got great ability within that changing room, from some of the senior boys through to some of the young players, but if you haven’t got that character and resilience to go with it, you aren’t going to get too far."
