A dream start turned into the stuff of nightmares for AFC Wimbledon on Saturday as Cambridge United roared back at Kingsmeadow.

Matt Tubbs gave the Dons the lead with only a few seconds on the clock but Kwesi Appiah came back to haunt his old club and Liam Hughes completed the turnaround.

Boss Neal Ardley said: "Letting them back into the game was poor, we weren't dominant enough but in the end it was a tight game which could have gone either way."

Hughes’ goal, a scrappy finish to send home Sullay Kaikai’s free-kick, was unacceptable in Sammy Moore’s view and left the midfielder cursing a lapse in focus.

“I thought we were the better side before they scored in the second half and then we switched off again for a set piece, which is criminal in this league," he said. "After that we looked disjointed and never got back in the game. We need to find some consistency in this league."
