Harry Redknapp admits Eduardo Vargas and Bobby Zamora are already pencilled on the team sheet to face Aston Villa next Monday.

The Rs boss was thrilled by the pair’s efforts in the 3-2 defeat to Liverpool that also brought a brace of debut goals for Vargas to go with the netted by the Chilean for his country during the international break.

But that almost certainly leaves Charlie Austin back on the bench after he failed to find the net for the second match running.

Face in the crowd: A Zamora cut-out shows a fan's appreciation

Redknapp said: “The little boy Vargas came on for us; scored two goals for Chile midweek, and he’s going to be an asset for us.

“He’s given me even more confidence; he’s a goalscorer, and he nearly scored at the end when Skrtel when cleared off his line and he came diving in and nearly took a boot on the head.

“It’s going to be difficult to leave him out of the team, I think.”

Zamora also had his best game for a very long time when he got a rare start against the Reds, with fans chanting his name for practically all the 79 minutes he was on the pitch before giving way to Vargas himself.

“They couldn’t play Bobby, could they?” he added. “(The plan was) drop it up to Bobby and join him, and he was unplayable for 70 minutes.”
