Harry Redknapp reckons his side should have been smarter in the last minute against Liverpool.

A free-kick from Leroy Fer that went awry saw the Reds break away to score the winner, but the manager was delighted with a performance that was far better than the eventual 3-2 defeat.

The manager said: "It was a bit of naivete, and their first goal was farcical.

"We get a free-kick with a minute to go. I see everything set up for a shot, and we get everyone forward.

"You organise so they can't break on the counter attack. After the first corner of the game we had people running into the box. I screamed at them - but we kept doing the same thing, although I couldn't ask for anymore.

"That was the best I've seen us play since I was at the football club. We were excellent today, but we didn't get what we deserved. It was an absolute injustice we got beat."

Redknapp praised Fer despite his wayward free-kick, and reminded everyone a fair few of the side are still playing catch-up in terms of fitness.

"I didn't like his (Fer's) free-kick at the end, but he's a good player. He didn't train pre-season. He went away to the World Cup where he was sat on the bench and probably used as a mannequin at practising free-kicks and it's taken time to get players up to speed," he added.
