The goalkeeper's union is still strong at Fulham, Joe Lewis has confirmed as he enjoys a healthy friendship with fellow glovemen Marcus Bettinelli and Andy Lonergan.

The Whites have needed three stoppers this season with Bettinelli and Lonergan suffering injuries, leaving Lewis with the number one jersey.

However, the trio remain good friends and the injured duo have been supporting the Cardiff loanee themselves.

Lewis said: “We get on really well. It's always been the case wherever I have been. I enjoy working with them.

“Unfortunately, Marcus and Lonners have picked up injuries which have given me a chance to play so I'll take the opportunity with both hands.”

Injured: Marcus Bettinelli

Despite three players going for one position, the trio are pushing each other and Lewis believes the relationship is built on the fact that keeping is a more specialist position on the pitch than anywhere else.

He explained: “I think it's a different position and a different mindset. You have to be goalkeepers to understand.

“Wherever I have been I've never not got on with another goalkeeper. The goalkeepers union exists at every club.”
