AFC Wimbledon have submitted a planning application to Merton Council for a new stadium at Plough Lane.

The Dons handed in outline plans back in September 2013 and have stepped up their bid to return to their spiritual home.

They were given the green light to formally submit the proposal when a report by an independent inspector confirmed the Plough Lane side was suitable for “Sporting Intensification” back June.

Chief executive Erik Samuelson said: “This is the culmination of 18 months intensive work for the club, Galliard Homes, and our team of specialist advisers. It is an extremely comprehensive proposal covering every aspect of the development and associated issues. We ask everyone to be patient for a little longer before the details can be shared in a few weeks’ time.”

Wimbledon’s proposed new stadium features an 11,000 capacity, with the flexibility to expand in stages to 20,000, matching the club’s growth and development on and off the pitch.

Extensive banqueting and conference facilities, 600 residential units and a wide range of shops and community facilities will also be incorporated.
