AFC Wimbledon have submitted outline plans for a new stadium in Plough Lane.

The Dons are currently playing home games at Kingsmeadow in Kingston upon Thames but have maintained a long-term ambition to play back in Wimbledon.

That dream is edging closer to becoming reality and the club has identified the greyhound site in Plough Lane as their location of choice for a new community-focused stadium.

Outline plans have been handed to Merton Council as part of the local authority’s call for sites process as the Dons work with Galliard Homes to win approval for the football ground.

Wimbledon’s proposed £16million stadium features an 11,000 capacity, with the flexibility to expand in stages to 20,000, matching the club’s growth and development on and off the pitch.

Extensive banqueting and conference facilities, around 600 residential units and a wide range of shops and community facilities will also be incorporated.
