Cricketers from Hillingdon have been bowled over after winning gold at the Balfour Beatty London Youth Games (LYG) Indoor Finals at Lords.

The borough team, which consisted of boys eight and under, played at the Home of Cricket on Sunday (March 1), having qualified by topping their group in January.

First up they beat Waltham Forest to set up a semi-final clash with Hounslow, who they beat with a couple of balls to spare to reach the final.

In the final, Hilllingdon triumphed against Tower Hamlets, chasing down a total of 90 without losing a wicket to win by 10 wickets.

Team Manager Gordon Summerfield was understandably delighted with his team’s performance on the day and throughout the competition.

He said: “I am absolutely chuffed for all the players as well as all of our supporters - it is a very special achievement for the Hillingdon squad to play at Lord’s in the finals of the LYG competition and an incredible result.

“Playing at an iconic venue such as Lord’s is what all these young players aspire to, this adds so much so much to the competition. They were brilliant all the way through and I’ve said that this is the best group I have ever trained.”
