Neal Ardley spoke to us after his side's defeat to Plymouth - what did he have to say?

On The Result

"Not the result we wanted, not the performance, not the anything. It was a bit of a reality check for us. I thought for 20-30 minutes we had a great intensity and energy and caused them all sorts of problems and you need a goal at that point, because you know the energy levels will drop at some stage and they would get more of a foothold. We didn't start the second half with the same energy as the first then the deflected goal came and after that we lost our heads and became 11 individuals rather than a team. We lost energy, composure and made poor decisions."

On Plymouth's first goal

"I thought their first goal was outstanding. We lost the ball in midfield because of a miscommunication and within two passes it is back post and the volley there is not too much you can do with that. You try and mark the width of the goal and anything that comes out the back you try and go and deal with, but the guy has hit it first time.
On a lack of end product: I think we have had 18 crosses, 13 set pieces, but we still have not punished them and that is not good enough."

On the 3-4-3 formation being too predictable

"Knowing what is coming and dealing with it can be too different things. Plymouth did a good job on us in the end and took control of the game in the end, but they could have been 2-0 down before they took control of the game. Games of fotball hinge on goals. If we go 2-0 up we could even have sat in and changed our shape. It is about your team performing at a high level and making sure the opposition can't deal with it."
