Two schoolboys who were involved in a horrific rape ordeal on a 13-year-old girl had their sentences cut by judges on Wednesday (December 13).

Anthony Sharman, 18, of Endwood Court Road, Birmingham was handed a 11 year sentence and Kurtis Nelson, also 18, of Copley Close, Ealing was sentenced to 12 years after admitting two rape counts.

The pair received their sentences at Isleworth Crown Court in May.

London's Appeal Court heard from Lord Justice Irwin how the pair subjected their lone victim to a "truly terrifying ordeal".

Nelson, who was 16 at the time, pulled the schoolgirl off a west London street and into a wooded area before punching her in the face as she was held down by two others.

He then forced her to show her breasts.

She was then threatened and forced into performing oral sex on the pair and two other boys.

Lord Justice Irwin said the teenagers took a break at a nearby restaurant and then dragged the girl into an alley where she was orally raped.

The court heard how one of the youths had tried to stick up for her but was "beaten by the group into submission".

The sentences were cut on Wednesday (December 13)

The victim was threatened with being stabbed and gang-raped if she didn't do as she was told.

The judge said: "These events were of the most shocking and terrifying nature.

"This girl was profoundly shocked and there have been long-term effects."

The judge decided the pair's punishments were too harsh giving their youth, describing Sharman, who was 15 at the time of the attack, as of "borderline" intelligence, playing a lesser role in the attacks.

The judge said he had a chaotic background, living between west London and his home city, and that he displayed a "clear lack of empathy" and had "actively encouraged" the ringleader, Nelson.

According to the judge, Nelson also showed a "clear lack of understanding of what he had done".

Sitting with Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb and Judge Nicholas Dean QC, the judge reduced Nelson’s term to 10 years and nine months.

Sharman’s sentence was reduced to nine years.
