A construction worker has suffered serious injuries following an accident at the site of the former BBC Television Centre in White City.

Emergency services say a man was trapped under a lorry just after 8.15am today (February 22). He was taken by ambulance to St Mary’s Hospital’s Major Trauma Centre with multiple injuries.

London Taxi driver John Davey was sitting at traffic lights having dropped his wife off at White City station when he saw the air ambulance land.

He said: “At first I thought there had been an incident at the station and I was worried for my wife, but then I realised they were running to a lorry and I realised someone was obviously trapped underneath.

“The fire brigade was there and they were on their hands and knees looking under the lorry.”

Firefighters later confirmed that a man was trapped beneath a waste refuge lorry. They were called at 8.23am to Television Centre development site at Wood Lane, on the junction with South Africa Road.

The former TV BBC centre is currently being converted into television studios home and offices by developers Stanhope.

A spokesperson said: “An incident occurred this morning at the Television Centre development site involving a vehicle and a member of the site team.

“Emergency services attended and the casualty has been taken to hospital.”

The Health and Safety Executive will investigate the incident.
