Thames Water has briefed residents, road users and business owners in Hammersmith ahead of planned work which will result in disruption on a major road in the New Year.

There will be no access to Fulham Palace Road from the Hammersmith gyratory, except for buses and emergency vehicles, between January 5 and 14.

The closure will allow engineers to install monitoring equipment on a large clean water main which will allow Thames Water to better detect leaks.

Engineers are set to work on the project 24/7 to get the job done as quickly as possible but will aim to carry out the noisiest work between 8am and 8pm.

Thames Water customer coordinator Tina Enright acknowledged the work would cause disruption, but also said: “This job has been many months in the planning with Hammersmith and Fulham Council and Transport for London to get the arrangements just right and we hope people will understand the importance of the work we’re going to do.

“Feedback from our customers is that they want to see us investing to improve our pipes, but in some places it’s impossible to do so without causing some disruption.

“We’re determined to make sure disruption is kept to a minimum though and the job finished as soon as it possibly can be.”

Thames Water has written to residents and businesses in Fulham Palace Road and in the wider area to explain how the work will impact buses and general traffic.

And on Thursday (December 14) Thames Water held an information session when its customer service bus stopped for three hours in Chancellors Road.
