An NHS campaign group in Ealing is planning a protest for when Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt visits the borough.

The Ealing Southall Conservative Association has booked in Mr Hunt as a guest speaker at the Southall Conservative Club on Thursday (November 19).

But campaign group Ealing Save Our NHS has posted a rallying call on social media platform Twitter ahead of his visit.

The ESONHS message read: "Jeremy Hunt is coming to Southall, join the protest! Please share as much as you can."

A steward at the SCC said he was not aware of the protest, but would now be looking into the matter.

ESONHS vice-chair Oliver New said: "This is people's opportunity to show the Health Minister that he has nil support."

The campaign follows widespread controversy over the Health Secretary's proposals for the NHS.

Protesters fear his plans could abolish overtime rates for evenings and Saturday's for junior doctors.

An estimated 16,000 protesters marched through Westminster on October 17 to urge Mr Hunt to scrap his proposals.

That prompted him to write to junior doctors on November 4 promising a pay rise of 11% just a day before the British Medical Association prepared a ballot to vote on industrial action - lasting two weeks.

But a junior doctor from Ealing, along with MP Stephen Pound, criticised the move and accused Mr Hunt of "missing the point."
