A friend of two police officers seriously injured in a crash in Neasden has revealed their injuries are "life-changing".

Daryl Asprey set up a Go Fund Me page to help the stricken officers in the run-up to Christmas - remarkably raising more than £3,200 in just one hour and £3,500 in two hours.

Named on the page as Chris and Sam, the officers were injured when a car collided with them in Neasden at 3.40am on Sunday morning (December 17).

The officers, based in Brent borough, had been assisting with an unrelated matter when they were in collision with a white Maserati.

The two officers, both in their 30s, remain in hospital - the male officer with "serious injuries" according to Metropolitan Police, and the female officer with fractures. She is described as in a serious but stable condition.

The crowdfunding page initially set a target of £2,500, but has already reached that goal with more than 150 donations in under an hour.

Daryl Asprey, explains on the page: "Not only will their recoveries be emotionally and physically draining for themselves and their respective families (of which Chris has has young children) but it will also be a huge test financially - especially in the run up to Christmas."

"This is the season of good will and giving, so please dig deep and give as much or as little as you can afford. Every little donation, will I’m sure, be greatly received by our friends."

According to the Go Fund Me page, the officers are based at Wembley police station on D team response.

In a statement, Met Police said: "At around 3.40am on Sunday (December 17), the two officers were returning to a marked police vehicle parked on the A406 near the junction with Dog Lane in Brent Park, Neasden, when a car collided with them.

"The car - a white Maserati - sustained serious damage and stopped at the scene."

A woman in her 40s, who had been in the car, was taken to hospital but is not seriously injured.

A man in his 50s - the driver of the car - has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to provide a sample of breath. He remains in custody at a north London police station.
