The driver of a moped that crashed in Chelsea on Tuesday (October 17) evening has been arrested for offences including a knife-point robbery.

The vehicle hit a car in King’s Road while fleeing police at around 5pm.

Officers are linking the incident to reports of a robbery in nearby Cadogan Square, which saw two men on a mopped steal a wristwatch from a woman.

The driver of the moped was taken to hospital after the collision, where he remains with injuries described as non life-threatening or changing.

Met Police says officers were alerted at 3.30pm to reports of the Cadogan Square robbery.

At 5pm officers were called to reports of two men on a moped acting suspiciously in the same road.

When police arrived, the moped made off at speed down King’s Road, where shortly afterwards it was in collision with a car.

The moped’s passenger fled the scene before officers arrived, but the 24-year-old driver was injured and taken to hospital by paramedics.

He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of a series of traffic offences and robbery, and bailed to return to a central London police station on a date in early November.

Kensington and Chelsea Police said in a tweet that offences include a knife-point robbery.

The driver of the car was uninjured.

King’s Road was closed for around two hours after the collision, with buses in the area diverted.
