A murder investigation has been launched in Fulham after a man was shot dead on Monday (December 5) night.

Police were called at around 9.30pm to reports of shots fired in Walham Grove near the junction with North End Road, and attended along with London Ambulance Service.

They discovered a 24-year-old man with a gun shot wound to his head. He was He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives believe they know the identity of the deceased and next of kin have been informed. A post-mortem examination and formal identification will be arranged in due course.

Police are now appealing for information.

The investigation is being led by Detective Chief Inspector Noel McHugh, who said: “At this early stage in our investigation I am appealing for anyone who was in Walham Grove last night, around the time of the murder, who may have seen or heard something that could help our investigation.”

A man was shot dead as he got into the front passenger seat of a car on Walham Grove, at the junction of North End Road, on Monday night at around 9.30pm

Paramedics say the victim had a head wound and was dead before they arrived. Police have launched a murder investigation.

The victim was returning to the car with a friend after stopping off for food in a restaurant.

Police believe the gun man was lying in wait.

He continued: “A lot of people were stopping and asking police what had happened. I didn’t see any forensics but I guess that was done last night. Police seem to be there to secure the scene.”

Large police presence

getwestlondon photographer Darren Pepe was at Walham Grove today. He said “The intersection where the roads meet has been cordoned off, and some of the roads going further out are cordoned off as well.

“There were two or three police officer within the cordon, and a fairly large police presence walking around as well.”

'To find out that someone got shot especially so close to my home is sickening'

She continued: “As I got to the crime scene I just saw loads of people and thought someone might have got run over as loads of cars speed and don’t really look at pedestrians. But to find out that someone got shot especially so close to my home is sickening... that poor person.”

'Loads of ambulance and police'

@Shanoodle_ox told getwestlondon: “I saw loads of loads of ambulance and police driving up and saw they were all stopping near where I walk home, as it’s the route I walk everyday to take my son to school and go see my mum.”

No arrests yet

Police, who have been working through the night and studying CCTV footage, have not made any arrests yet

Cllr Cowan said incidents such as this underlined the importance of council-funded police officers in the borough, which are at their highest ever. He also said it showed the importance of increased CCTV coverage in the area

Investigating officer Noel McHugh, from the Homicide and Major Crime Command: “It would appear that the murderer had been waiting in the street in Walham Grove for a while for the friends to return to their car. Did you see someone hanging around in the area from about 8:30pm up until the time of the murder.”

According to the Met the parked the car they were driving - a silver and black Renault Captur - in Walham Grove, near the junction with North End Road. The 24-year-old man was shot after leaving the restaurant, as he got into the front passenger seat. Metropolitan Police say: “It would appear that the gunman had been lying in wait.”

Victim had stopped for food

At this stage detectives believe that the victim, who was with a friend, had stopped for something to eat at a fast food restaurant in Walham Grove.
