What would you do with an additional day off this year?

Well thanks to The Queen we could be in for a treat with a three-day weekend in June with an extra bank holiday this year.

Queen Elizabeth II celebrated 65 years on the throne this year, following the death of her father, George VI, on February 6, 1952.

She also made history this year by becoming the first British monarch to reach her Sapphire Jubilee.

Conservative Andrew Rosindell, MP for Romford, has said it would be a "missed opportunity" not to have an extra bank holiday and mark the milestone.

People could celebrate by organising traditional street parties and events, he added.

He raised the issue at Westminster and the motion was unopposed by MPs on Tuesday (March 7).

Could the Queen give us an extra bank holiday this year?

The Bill has been scheduled for debate in the Commons on March 24.

The proposal will need to win the support of ministers to gain the parliamentary time necessary to be passed into law.

There are eight annual Bank Holidays in the UK: New Year's Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Early May, Late May, August, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Savvy workers who plan their holiday right can get 19 days off work by booking leave over Bank Holidays in 2017.
