A power cut that hit the Ealing Broadway Shopping Centre affected more than 1,315 customers in the area.

The power was cut at about 11.15am on Thursday (January 29) and the majority of the supply was back by 12.30pm.

Andrew Rollings, Ealing Broadway Shopping Centre’s director, said: “A power cut, lasting under two hours, was experienced at the centre today. This was caused by a severed mains network cable, affecting electricity supplied to areas in Ealing, Hanwell and Gunnersbury. All stores are now open again as usual, and we’d like to thank our retailers and shoppers for their patience.”

The shopping centre tweeted just after midday on January 29: "Unfortunately there has been a powercut in Ealing Broadway Shopping Centre, there will be no electricity in the centre until 2.15pm."

Ten minutes later the centre tweeted they were working with their suppliers to resolve the problem and would keep people updated.

A spokesman for (SSE) Scottish and Southern Energy said the problem was caused by a third party who struck a cable and damaged the underground network, but could not reveal who that third party was.

He said: "Through manipulation of the network we can get a large network of customers back to power quickly.

"Everybody was back on by 1pm after rerouting the network.

"Final repairs have been completed at Crosslands Avenue, Ealing."
