A man accused of murdering grandfather Tony Charlery in Notting Hill is to appear at the Old Bailey tomorrow (September 9).

John Tayo Wesley, of no fixed abode, but from the Notting Hill area has been charged with killing Mr Charlery in Portobello Road just before 1am on August 30.

The music promoter and family man, of Earls Court Road, Kensington was stabbed in the neck just before midnight on August 29 and died in the street less than an hour later as he left Mau Mau bar where he had stopped for a chat with a friend.

Mr Wesley, 38, appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on Friday (September 5) where his case was sent straight to the Central Criminal Court, known as the Old Bailey, where he will appear tomorrow for a plea and case management hearing. A trial date will then be set.

A 21-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder on September 3 has been bailed pending further enquiries.
