An Ealing record company has released a compendium of songs from unsigned artists to raise money for The Marc Bolan School of Music in Sierra Leone.

The Hanwell -based Just One More Thing Records issued the 30-track album, The Marc Bolan Charity Medley , on April 6, which contains recordings from five Ealing acts, including: Mark Nicholls, This Riot Elite, Form-B, Peter Maurice, and Martin and Maurice.

The company said that they will be donating proceeds from the album sales to the Light of Love Foundation, which is a driving force behind the fundraising campaign to build the school in Sierra Leone’s fourth biggest city, Makeni.

Les Spaine of JOMT Records said: “The children of Ealing can always rely on their schools having musical equipment (or even that there is a school at all), yet the children of Makeni do not have this assurance.

“Our company wanted to do their bit to help and we hope that other Ealing residents will download the track or order the CD to help those who are less fortunate.”

The school is named after British glam rock pioneer, Marc Bolan, who headed the influential group, T-Rex, until his death in a car crash in September 1977.

His former wife, Gloria Jones, and son, Rolan Bolan, now hope to reinstate the musician's legacy by opening the school in west Africa, with 100 spaces for students who have been victims of slavery and civil war.

Speaking on the project’s official website, Ms Jones said: “We will have our very own place, a building to be proud of. This school will be at the heart of the community, to inspire and to serve.

“Keep Marc’s music in your hearts, and see his wonderful legacy grow in a beautiful way.”
