The company behind the Ealing Half Marathon has been shortlisted for the acclaimed Community Programme of the Year prize.

At the BT Sport Industry Awards 2016 on April 28, race organisers Ealing Half Marathon CIC will go head-to-head with five other companies for the accolade.

Competition includes Coca-Cola GB, Everton in the Community, GoodGym, NatWest U19 Club T20 (ECB) and Yorkshire Bank Bike Libraries.

Director of Ealing Half Marathon CIC Kelvin Walker said: "We are absolutely thrilled to have been shortlisted for the BT Sport Industry Awards 2016, having earnt a place on the Official Shortlist is a brilliant achievement.

"As an official not-for-profit Community Interest Company, our aim is simple: to organise and manage a fully road closed mass participation race to raise a surplus which is ploughed back into community projects.

"In addition to the Ealing Half Marathon we also organise the Osterley Park 10K series, The Mile Series, Beginner Groups, Health Walks, plus children’s clubs & coaching.

"We engage in year round community activities including school presentations promoting physical activities, the set up and coaching of running clubs at schools and for adults, and training Leaders in Running Fitness."

The nomination follows its success in being crowned the UK's Best Half Marathon by runners at The Running Awards in 2014 and 2015.

It will be a finalist at the awards again this year.

The race, which has raised £850,000 for charity so far, was also voted Number One Race for Atmosphere by Runner's World in 2013.

The next Ealing Marathon, its fifth, will take place on September 25 and the 13.1 mile route starts and finishes in Lammas Park.

A total of 8,000 places are available at a cost for £36 for affiliated runners and £38 for unaffiliated runners.
