A fire has broken out at the All England Lawn Tennis Club in Wimbledon - just weeks before the championships are set to start.

Smoke was spotted billowing from the famous club grounds as firefighters rushed to the scene, on Friday (May 26) afternoon.

Four fire engines were tackling the blaze on a practice court, at around 1pm.

London Fire Brigade sent 21 firefighters to 'shrubbery' blaze

Four fire engines, and 21 firefighters and officers, were called to reports of a fire in the practice court area of the All England Tennis and Croquet Club, on Church Road in Wimbledon.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “The fire is involving an area of shrubbery and building materials.

“The Brigade was called at 12.33pm.

“Crews from Tooting, Wandsworth, Fulham and New Malden fire stations are at the scene.

“The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage.”
