Two women who have overcome personal difficulties are hosting a New Life Transforming event in Kilburn to try and combat drug and gun crime in the community.

Dr Ava Eagle Brown, an honorary doctor, author, international speaker and a transformation mindset coach and Sonia Poleon who is an international best selling writer and radio personality, want to inspire and invigorate the Black Community by inviting top international speakers to the event in September.

Both mothers have fought hardship to become success, with Dr Brown coming from a poor family in Jamaica where she experienced abuse, as well as having to skip school to work to provide food for her family.

Ms Poleon was threatened with having her throat slashed while working as a housing officer before becoming a writer.

World renowned motivational speaker Eric Thomas will be speaking at the event, with tickets costing £65 per person.

A total of 185 teenagers have been fatally shot or stabbed in London alone between 2005 and 2015 and the pair want to empower others to maximise their potential, and to combat negative portrayal of urban black youth.

There will be a number of speakers at the event hosted on September 24, which will aim to inspire and invigorate the black community.

Dr Brown said: "The aim is to have a new conversation with the black community.

"A conversation of hope, letting them know if you get your mind right you can achieve anything.

"We want to help many people make shifts in their lives to understand that regardless of what they are going through, they can push through the barriers and become successful."

Ms Poleon added: "I believe that life and experience are our biggest teachers and that the challenges in our lives strengthen us and true strength comes from overcoming life's hardships without surrendering."

The event will take place at Ruach City Church in Kilburn High Road, with the event starting at 9am.
