Fancy going on a fun superhero-themed family walk for a good cause?

The 5th annual London Walkabout event will soon be taking place in Hyde Park, in order to raise money for children and adults around the world with disabilities.

The walk will take place on Saturday October 8. It is a 5km family walk around the picturesque Serpentine, with 10 special superpowers to pick up along the way.

Everyone involved will be given a superhero cape to take part in, and the walk will be followed by games and activities, a live band, a picnic, and a raffle and silent auction, all in aid of The Walkabout Foundation.

The Walkabout event was founded by siblings Luis and Carolina Gonzalez-Bunster. Luis was left paralysed from the chest down in a car accident at the age of 18, and became the first man to cross the entire width of Spain using just his arms; Carolina walked the entire 870 kilometers with him.

The idea of London Walkabout came from this incredible example of walking for those who cannot, and the successful event has now been going since 2011.

Merren Wallace, a spokesperson for The Walkabout Foundation, said: "The Walkabout Foundation aims to restore dignity, freedom and independence to children and adults with disabilities across the world by donating wheelchairs to people in need and funding research to find a cure for paralysis.

"To date, we have distributed over 9,000 wheelchairs to 20 different countries, and have donated over $1,000,000 to pioneering research projects."

Registration to the event costs £35, which includes a goody bag, superhero cape, lunch, and all free activities. All of the money raised from tickets will go towards the Walkabout Foundation's projects.
