Husband and wife team who run Sapnay School of Dance on Rayner’s Lane created a special Bollywood dance fusion with street and hip hop for their audition, which will be aired on ITV this Saturday (May 21).
Charanjeet Oberoi and wife Ash, artistic director and mastermind behind the dance fusion piece, hope newly named group ‘Bollywest Fusion’ take the audience by storm and sweep music mogul Simon Cowell off his feet as the show marks its 10th anniversary this year.
Other choreographers thrilled to be on board include daughter Prabhleen Oberoi who created the Bollywood section of the BGT dance piece, along with Del Mak and Aleksandra Papior.
The male and female mix of 10 dancers are all aged 18-plus and come from all walks of life.
In January this year, Fountain Studios where BGT is filmed was set to close for demolition.
Mr Oberoi said: “The aim was to bring something new to the table for the UK audience. The group went forward with a new name ‘Bollywest Fusion’ for the live audition round.
“It was a challenge for the choreographers to create a masterpiece of Bollywood dance fusion with street and hip hop, but even the dancers had to adapt to learning other styles they had never done before.
“Although Ash knew exactly what she wanted it was hard work ensuring that the execution and presentation of the fusion did justice and came across exactly how she envisioned it.”
This is not Sapnay dancers’ first time in the spotlight having performed with famous Hounslow -born star Jay Sean for the Prime Minister of India for ‘UK Welcomes Modi’ at Wembley Stadium; been semi-finalists of talent contest Got to Dance on Sky 1; and performed for the King & Queen of Bollywood, Shahrukh Khan and Kajol on BBC’s The One Show.
