It may be months yet until Christmas , but Oxford Street is already celebrating the festive season.

The giant baubles that light up Europe's busiest shopping street every year were spotted being set up on Monday (October 2).

Londoners took to social media to bemoan the decision to put the famous Christmas lights up already, 84 days before Christmas Day.

Posting pictures of engineers installing the festive decorations, one disgruntled shopper wrote "Christmas lights already? Really Oxford Street?" while another tweeted "as if the Oxford Street Christmas lights are up already".

Meanwhile others said it was their "absolute favourite time of year" as they watched some of the 750,000 bulbs being installed.

However, shoppers will have to wait until the lights are turned on in November to see them in all their glory.

In the meantime, you can get into the festive spirit in the shopping district by visiting the John Lewis Christmas Market or the Selfridges Christmas department.
