London beer-lovers will be pleased to hear they can save splashing out on flights to Munich and enjoy this year's Oktoberfest in Clapham instead.

The 1,200-capacity Clapham Grand in St John's Hill will transform into the mother of all Bavarian beer halls for four evenings this October.

Tickets are still available for Saturday October 7 and Friday October 13.

Lederhosen and Dirndls at the ready? Here's what you need to know about celebrating Oktoberfest in London.

Bratwurst galore

Authentic German food stalls will be serving bratwurst straight off the grill with sauerkraut and all the trimmings.

Veggie options will also be available and fresh pretzels will be walked around for you as people sing and dance at their tables.

Bier, Bier, Bier!

A variety of German beer, including the Oktoberfest classic Löwenbräu, will be served in authentic steins (vast Bavarian beer mugs).

German cider will be available for non-beer lovers as well as soft drinks and a selection of other bevvies.

Oompah!

There will be a live oompah band performing traditional Schlager music and teaching the crowd how to sing and dance to all the Oktoberfest classics, such as "Ein Prosit".

Book a table

In the spirit of Oktoberfest empty spaces at tables are open to all, but to celebrate with friends you can reserve a table for up to eight people.

Oktoberfest London and Mega Events manager Rachel Pedreschi said: “This will be an absolutely incredible night out in London.

"There is something so special and traditional about an Oktoberfest celebration that you just can't deny. "

German beer will be served in traditional steins

She added: "This is our first year at the Grand, so we really want to recreate the feeling of walking into the main beer halls in Munich, with a British edge.

"The ceilings will be completely draped and rows tables will surround the stage.

"Hundreds of Oktobians will be flooding The Grand in all their Bavarian glory.

"I can’t imagine a more perfect way to celebrate Oktoberfest.

"We are bringing out all the stops for this one – from genuine bratwurst to our staff in full costume, it will be a very special night.”
