National Geographic Traveller magazine is holding a series of its popular expert-led travel writing and photography masterclasses at its inaugural festival, perfect for travellers looking to make the transition from amateur to pro.

Practical, in-depth sessions feature industry advice and stylistic tips from award-winning writers, editors and photographers from the world of professional travel publishing.

Sponsored by language app Babbel, the festival is a one-stop-shop for keen travellers and fans of National Geographic Traveller's adventurous, authentic brand of exploration and reportage.

Salar de Uyuni is the world's largest salt flat

All talks, activities and sessions, plus food and drink all day, are included in the ticket price.

Headline speakers include Olympic rower turned celebrated adventurer James Cracknell OBE, whose expeditions in the Yukon and Empty Quarter have been chronicled on the Discovery Channel and BBC, and National Geographic expedition leader Paul Rose — whose tales of Arctic and marine exploration (not to mention skirmishes with polar bears) are sure to give the audience chills.

National Geographic Traveller editor Pat Riddell said: "This new live event will give you the opportunity to step into the pages of the magazine to meet the experts, whether they're explorers, adventurers, writers or photographers and also the people who inspire and create the content of the magazine."

Kings penguins inhabit the shores of South Georgia in mass numbers in the summer months.

In addition to the masterclasses there will be lots of activities and experiences on offer including:

  • French, Spanish and Italian language lessons from Babbel tutors
  • Spanish Flamenco workshops
  • Japanese Taiko drumming performances
  • Martial arts classes with Taekwondo masters
  • Bushcraft and survival skills sessions
  • Mindfulness and yoga classes
  • Cooking demonstrations from celebrity and Michelin-starred chefs
  • Wine tasting
  • All-day Italian cuisine
  • Whisky cocktails from professional mixologists

Plus there will be a wealth of advice on offer from National Geographic Traveller's Travel geeks, an illustrious collection of explorers, experts and writers, as they take on some of today's most pressing travel topics in a series of panel talks and audience Q&As.
