The Lyric Theatre in Hammersmith has announced a whole new timetable of activities and classes in a wide range of art forms including theatre, dance, music, film, TV and digital for children and young people of all ages.

The classes will take place in the Reuben Foundation Wing, a new extension opened in April as part of the theatre's £20m re-development.

Prices range from company to company; due to The Lyric Theatre's commitment to affordable classes, no class is more than £10 per session.

In order to take the classes, all you have to do is sign up to become a member of the Lyric Young Company.

Among the timetabled classes being launched is Lyric Voices choir, headed by recording artist and vocal coach Byron Gold.

Lyric Voices is a youth choir that has been working with The Lyric Theatre for five years.

Gold said: "In the classes we'll be learning very different vocal styles and vocal techniques; we teach all different kinds of songs, from choral, African folk, pop, rock... One week we'll be doing Taylor Swift, or Take That, it depends from week to week.

"One thing that everything has in common is that they'll all be quite challenging vocal arrangements. We learn how to produce harmonies and different vocal techniques."

The Lyric Voices classes begin for the 10-week term on Thursday September 24 and run weekly until Thursday December 3. The classes cost £35 per term, or just £3.50 per class.

The classes are suitable for 13 to 25-year-olds.

Gold said: "What you benefit from the classes are meeting great people, getting to work on your voice, working with The Lyric... Some of the students so far have gone on to great things.

"The most important thing is you get to learn different vocal techniques and build your confidence."

Other music classes on offer this term are run by Musiko Musika, The Lyric Hammersmith, Tri-Borough Music Hub and Youth Music Theatre UK.
