Is it true... Could runners expect SNOW at this year's London Marathon ?

According to the Met Office, it seems unlikely, but runners have been told by most weather offices to prepare for slightly chillier temperatures, as well as some showers.

Isobel Lang, Sky News' weather presenter, said those taking part should get ready to face colder temperatures.

She said: "Those keeping daily checkups on Sunday's London Marathon forecast will know it's looking chilly with northerly winds.

"Although some sunny spells are possible across London, when skies cloud over it will feel particularly cool and there may be some sleet in the showers, or possibly even wet snow.

"As far as I can tell, snow hasn't been reported since the London marathon began in 1981 so if this happens it would be a first."

But the Met Office reassures runners that the possibility of snow is highly unlikely, although there may be some showers of rain or hail.

A spokeswoman for the Met Office said: "We're not expecting snow! We're looking at the likelihood of some showers. It could rain, it's likely that there will be some showers and maybe some hail.

"Otherwise we're looking at temperatures of about 10C, which is not bad at all.

"There's nothing significant happening to the weather this Sunday; nothing that's going to make conditions any more difficult than average."
