A cast of colourful characters are set to bring to life Cranford Park 's illustrious past for a day of family fun.

Knights, maids from the old manor house and the ghostly 'Grey Lady' will again populate the park for its annual Family Day on Saturday July 23.

The former inhabitants will recreate the history of the park, which was home to medieval knights and later became the country estate of the Berkeley family, where they entertained royalty.

Visitors can also enjoy falconry displays, an animal farm, pond-dipping and story-telling during the day.

The Knights Templar will recreate a medieval camp and demonstrate weapons from the period, and there will be refreshments in the church yard and an exhibition in the listed stables.

The free event, now in its fourth year, will take place from 11am to 4.30pm at the park, which lies off the A312 The Parkway, on the borders of Hillingdon and Hounslow boroughs.

The park last year won a silver medal in the London in Bloom awards.

Cranford Park Friends are working with Hillingdon Council to restore the historic stables and regenerate the park.

Open-air musical ahead of family day

Ahead of the family day, the park will host an open-air musical about the River Thames on Saturday July 16.

Outline Theatre's 40-minute play River Trippers will take place in the stable courtyard at 3pm.

Tickets, priced £3.50 each or £12 for four, are available from Outline Theatre's website or by calling 01895 851 936.
