The Christmas season is nearly upon us, and that can mean one thing... The emotional John Lewis Christmas advert is nearly here as well!

Get your tissues at the ready, as the department store's festive advert is usually heartwarming and poignant.

It has become one of the most hotly-anticipated festive adverts of the season and people are already speculating what songs and which singers will be on board to gently whisk us into the Christmas spirit.

Here are all of our predictions for 2016's John Lewis advert, including when it will be played and whether we'll be shedding a tear or two!

When will the advert be aired?

While an exact date has yet to be confirmed by the retailer, it seems that Friday November 4 will be the big day.

Every year since 2009, John Lewis and the brains behind its agency, Adam & EveDDB, have come up with increasingly rousing and polished adverts.

Last year's Man On The Moon had viewers in tears as a girl finds a man on the moon when looking through the family telescope one night. She continues to watch him all alone up there and becomes determined to send him a message to show him that someone is thinking of him.

The advert debuted on our screen on Friday November 6, meaning the corresponding Friday this year is November 4.

The ad is usually premiered prime time, so it will most likely be during the Coronation Street break.

Will it make us cry again?

Odds on that it will definitely make a few people cry.

The emotive adverts have struck a chord with the telly-watching public, whether they found them cheesy or heartwarming.

There's usually a theme, such as last year's Man On The Moon, which highlighted loneliness amongst the older generation as the store joined forces with Age UK.

2013's Bear And The Hare focused on friendship and in 2011 The Long Wait - in which a little boy couldn't wait to give his parents their Christmas presents - highlighted the joy of gift giving.

Hopefully they will team up with a charity for another good cause again.

What will the song be?

Your guess is as good as ours, but if they follow previous form then it will be an iconic pop song pared back and sung in a haunting and beautiful way.

The Long Wait featured a cover of The Smiths' Please Please Let Me Get What I Want; Lily Allen covered Keane's Somewhere Only We Know for The Bear And The Hare; and Tom Odell sang John Lennon's Real Love for Monty the Penguin in 2015.

All manner of songs and artists have been predicted for this year's tune - from a Bowie tribute, to a Blur or Arctic Monkeys cover - and the speculated singers include Billie Marten, Izzy Bizu and Kathryn Joseph.

It's only a matter of time until we get to find out what tear-jerker awaits us!
