A pub in Uxbridge is getting a £330,000 revamp.

The Grand Union in the High Street will be closed for six weeks to accommodate the refurbishment, which will include the installation of a new kitchen to serve British food.

The investment comes after new licensees and restaurant operators Yoga Mogantas and Nayan Chande have taken over the pub.

And they're also giving it a brand new name.

“The Runway will serve good quality British food – everything from fish and chips to steaks - and, of course, roasts on a Sunday," said Mr Mogantas.

"All the dishes will be home cooked and freshly prepared using ingredients from local growers and farmers wherever possible."

He added: "There’ll be an equal focus on the bar with a good range of beers including cask ales."

The Runway is expected to open its doors in late November after work to renovate the building has been completed.

The investment will restore The Grand Union – which has been closed for a month - to its former glory as an outstanding traditional pub and introduce great freshly prepared food.

The pub will be family friendly and is being renamed The Runway to mark its change of direction.

The inside will be refurbished throughout in a vintage country pub style in keeping with the building’s architecture.

There will be a traditional bar area for those wanting to enjoy a drink, a comfortable lounge and a restaurant.

A new kitchen will be installed to enable The Runway to focus on food.

A second phase of work to revamp the garden in time for the spring will begin once The Runway has reopened.

Mr Mogantas added: “Uxbridge is a lovely town and we’re delighted to be able to open another business here.

"The Runway is an impressive building and the pub has lots of potential – it just needs TLC and investment.

"We’ll be giving it just that, we want to make it an asset to Uxbridge once again.

"It will be a new beginning for the pub – hence the name.”
