Motorists in Hounslow have been handed an early present after the council confirmed they could park for free across the borough this Christmas Eve.

Council leader Steve Curran this week said charges would be waived at all council-run car parks and metered parking bays on December 24, allowing last-minute shoppers could save their pennies for gifts.

“Many people are still struggling to make ends meet so we would thought we would lend a helping hand," he said.

“Hopefully this small present from us will help those on the desperate last minute shop buying their loved ones something a bit special this Christmas.”

Last year the council waived parking charges on December 23 and Christmas Eve.

In neighbouring Hillingdon the council is offering free parking for HillingdonFirst users at weekends from December 6 to January 4. But Hammersmith and Fulham Council is being less generous, with normal charges in place across the borough.
