Theatrical Costumes Exhibition: March 10-14

Historical costumes created by alumni of Kensington and Chelsea College will transport gueststo a bygone era.

The Theatrical Costumes Exhibition brings together a collection of 12 costumes created by former students of the College’s Theatrical Costumes course. The nationally renowned course has produced costume makers for well-known TV shows and films.

The collection of intricately made costumes being showcased for the exhibition includes crinoline and fashions worn in the 1630s, 1660s, 1860s and 1895.

There will also be images of costumes created on the course which were displayed at the prestigious Wallace Collection and The National Gallery for high-profile educational projects.

The exhibition is free to attend and runs from March 10-14. It takes place at the College’s Chelsea Centre exhibition space, Hortensia Road, SW10 0QS.

Guests will also have the chance to meet the skilled costume creators during a Private View taking place at the Chelsea Centre on March 13, between 6pm-8pm. The Private View is also free to attend and open to the public.

Speaking about the exhibition Claire Porter, Lecturer for Theatrical Costume at the College, said: “Each costume has been replicated from history. The exhibition will bring alive the fashions of a remarkable era and give guests the chance to explore and see first-hand the craftsmanship needed to produce such elaborate and detailed costumes.”
